Why are Monocrystant antimony catheters better than Polycrystant?

Catheters made from a Polycrystalline antimony crystal are unlikely to have as long a reusable life compared to a single crystal (Monocrystant or Monocrystalline). The Polycrystalline crystal has many micro-fissures on the surface allowing H+ ions to penetrate and build up within the crystal itself, it also has a greater surface area for the acid in the oesophagus or stomach to affect it. This effect is likely to shorten the life of the crystal and reduce the number of uses that a Polycrystant catheter may be subject to without pH reading or calibration error. Hence polycrystant antimony is ideal for single-use catheters.
